1ra Reunion femenil Guanajuato Capital

Dear Christian brethren:

Friday November 27th and Saturday, November 28th the church in Guanajuato capital had its first local womens conference with an attendance of 18 women and, for the first time, our dear sister Lucero Sosa and family from the Toluca church in the state of Mexico. The theme determined by our sister was "Spiritual Beauty," a theme certainly appropriate for the attendees.

At the end of the second class and to finish up, the women made some pretty handcrafts, and they seemed to really enjoy it because we could see them working to finish them up. After the meeting they all met together to enjoy a delicious BBQ. The men of the congregation also attended the dinner, and immediately after, they enjoyed a delicious cake.

As a result of this event, Maria and her daughter Maryjo were able to be contacted. Since November 29th up until now they have been attending the services. Also, a lady named Paola (60 years old) started to come that same day, but she comes from the Wednesday group evangelism study. Not only her, but Victor (a man who was a Catholic alter boy in his childhood) also comes from that same Wednesday study. Now, by God's will, he is learning to understand God by way of the Bible study.

Brothers (and Sisters) in Christ,

This email is to give you the latest news about the Wednesday small evangelism group. Yesterday there were 4 people in the group and also Josefina's sister Leni came to the group for the second time. She has many questions (she is Catholic) and I know that she is realizing how much she does not know God's word and this is having an impact on her. I ask for your prayers for them because it appears that they are making progress in knowing the truth. They still don't attend the worship but I know that they soon will. Their names are Victor, Leni, Branda, Maricela, and susana (the last ones are Josefina's daughters). Maricela has been coming to the worship for about a month.

I am sending you a photo of the group that has Ilse with a lady names Sofia. God bless you all. Please pray for us.

Dear Christian brethren,
I hope that you are found in good Elath and praising God’s faithfulness in your lives. Thanks so much for the help in the missionary work in Guanajuato – we are moving ahead with new studies and knowing more people, but now I am changing the strategy of my way of evangelizing. For this I ask your prayers to God that he will bless us with more people who really want to know God and who aren’t just coming to church for some personal benefit (be it financial or other) and who then somehow obtain it and then leave the congregation without wanting to continue studying. This has gotten me down a little but I know that it has to be so because the Bible says that this will just happen with some people.

No I am having a new evangelism study in Josefine’s house and thanks to God there are still 2 people (see photo) – her name is Brenda. She is 25 years old and is coming to Sunday classes at 10am on Sundays. He is Victor and he really has a need to find God because his life has had so many problems. Please continue helping us with your prayers.
God bless you.

Dear brethren: The peace, grace, and mercy of Father God be with you all. This is the report of the Sunday service of September 13th. We were 17 people that met together and after the worship we went to eat at Pollo Feliz ("Happy Chicken") The good news of all of this is that on of the daughters of our sister Josefina has been meeting with us in the church for a month and one of her friends (named Brenda) has been coming too, and both are interested in the word. I ask your prayers for them. I beg your prayers for the church in Guanajuato and for me.

I also ask that you please pray for my mother because last Friday she was in the hospital because she had a major nosebleed and the doctors told her that it was because of hypertension, and thank God that it was not bleeding in the brain because if so she would have had a stroke. My mother (her name is Esperanza) is now better but she is resting and needs to not have any stress now, so I hope that when she feels better she will come stay with us for awhile so we can help her first hand.

Thanks so much for your time, your friendship, and your assistance. You are truly a great blessing in our lives. God bless you forever.

from a sister in Toluca, Mexico

Dear friends:My father has been diagnosed with prostate and pancreas cancer recently. The doctors are still trying to determine the stage and the treatment that he will be needing.I am trying to ask as many people as possible to pray for my father. Ever since I became a Christian I've prayed for my father's soul, but he still haven't been able to see the truth. Many times I've seen people coming to Christ after I study with them, but not my father. I've asked God that he would send at least one person to him in the same way He's sent me to others, but my father hasn't heard yet.I became the first Christian in my family, but it was a year after my mother's death. All these years my wish has been that at least one of my parents will be with me in heaven.Would you please pray that God will heal my father's body and soul soon? I need your help and I know God listens. Would you ask your friends to pray for him also?I have nine brothers and sisters.Only two of my sisters have obeyed the gospel so far. I know if God reveals himself through my father's life then my whole family can be saved. His name is Gustavo Borja. He is a good guy. Excellent engineer that has been honored by many in Mexico, not only for his intelligence but for his kindness and great character and yet, none of those things will get him to heaven :(Thank you for your time and for your prayers. In Christ,Carla. I don't know if you care or not, but I still wanted to share that with you. I am very nostalgic right now.

Dear Christian brethren, this is the report of the service of September 6th. We were 20 people (in attendance) and we give you thanks for your prayers.

My PC has a virus that doesn't let me write or send emails (I cannot open any web page from my PC) so that I am using Ilse's laptop right now and I will be sending my reports from here for the moment. I won't be sending photos, and they are already fixing my PC and I hope it will soon return to normal.

My little Samuel is sick. He had 2 days of vomiting and he needed a lot of serum (? Pedialyte?) and thanks to God that passed, but now he has diarrhea and he's already been almost a week like this. Today were looking for a pediatrician and we ask you for your prayers for him.

Dear brothers in Christ. That the peace, mercy, and grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. The report of of this week was that there were 19 people mmeting Sunday (truly, we were few), nevertheless I should tell you that I have lots of good news.

There is a young woman named Sandy (the daughter of Sandra) who wants to be baptized (I am sending you her photo). Yesterday we were studying again and she asked that I would baptize her for the forgiveness of her sins (even though there is not a date for this yet because she wants her mother to accompany her for this special day). Her mother is having very difficult times now.

Also the parents of Tere (Jose and Maria) are seriously considering being baptized, because since Tere did it they have been able to see changes in their daughter and they are talking of this theme that is so important for everyone (baptism) (I don't have a picture of them.) Also, thanks be to God and as a result of the eye campaign I already have 2 new studies with Juanita (she uses the wheelchair because of disease in her feet) and Maria (a friend of Juanita) I ask for your prayers for all of them and especially for us. At the same time we give you thanks for your friendship and your help in the missionary work in Gto.
Dios los bendiga

Dear brother in Christ. Thanks to God that yesterday Tere and Cesar were baptized for the forgiveness of their sins yesterday. Tere is working in the Bible school as a teacher and Cesar helps me evangelize people that they knew from times past.

Thanks be to God that 170 people came to the eye campaign, and I already have 2 new studies from those contacts (with more to come we hope!) Things seem to be good and improving and we are content to be able to work for the Lord in His church. God bless your brothers. We hope to see you soon.

Trip July 2009

Familia Ramirez
Guanajuato early in the morning

Somewhere between GTO and DH

In Dolores Hidalgo

Teatro Juarez en el centro

Rick and I just returned from a great (but short) trip to Guanajuato. We arrived Saturday, July 4th and spent some time with the Ramirez family. Sunday worship was nice, with a good attendance and an excellent sermon by brother Raciel. Sunday after worship we had a mini-clinic for vision needs and saw about 40-50 people.
Monday, we had a clinic in Dolores Hidalgo and saw just over 200 people. Some of the church members there made us an excellent lunch, too. Please pray for the work there in DH.

Tuesday, we went to San Luis de la Paz - a new stop for the rolling vision clinic. That congregation is only about 11 months old, but Martin and Rut are doing an excellent job there. We saw about 110 people- not bad for a first clinic. Lunch and fellowship were great.

Wednesday we saw about 170 people in Guanajuato city. We stopped a few minutes for pizza and finished around 4:30pm.

All-in-all we had a great trip. The Rameriz family seems to be in good spirits and the church seems to be doing well (some people come and go, but I think that is to be expected in any church - it is very difficult to convince people to change life-long ways of doing things.)
Stay tuned for the next trip (time TBD) and think about going!!

Dear Brother in Christ:
Recieve a greeting all of you and also your families. This is the report of June 14th. We were 25 people in the service y I ask your prayers for the marriage of Cesar and Tere, they are thinking of being baptized and it seems that it will be soon.

Raciel

Also, on June 22, various members of the church will be fasting (along with us). This idea was born after a study about prayer and fasting. I strongly believe that God wants his church to be growing and maturing spiritually and that as His followers we have a time of fasting and prayer premanently. (see versus mentioned above). It's our goal to be a holy church. I ask your prayers for us and for the church.

That God richly blesses you in your lives.

July Trip Update

We still have 2 optometrists traveling to Guanajuato state in July. We had hoped to take a larger group, but the poor economy, the unyielding airfares, summer plans, and the swine flu scare kept many people away.

If anyone would like to go along or if anyone will be in the area, please email Keith at tkbeyedoc@aol.com.

The tentative plans are as follows:
July 4 - arrive
July 5 - worship in Guanajuato city and mini-clinic in the afternoon
July 6 - clinic in Dolores Hidalgo (9-4)
July 7 - clinic in San Franciso del Rincon (9-4)
July 8 - clinic in Guanajuato capital (9-4)
July 9 - depart

We ask for your prayers for safety in travel, better luck with aduana (customs), and success in helping people see better, but more importantly in introducing them to the word of God and to a local fellowship of believers.

June 9, 2009 report

Dear brothers in Christ: This is the report of what is happening this week. Monday, June 1st, thanks be to God, we again had a study with a woman named Sandra (she is married to Jose and they have a 5 month old boy) Sandra comes to the services, but her husband still has not (he works as a prison guard) We are studying about baptism, and we have another meeting tomorrow. I ask for your prayers for Sandra.

Today we will have an appointment with a group of women who want to know about the Word, and this will be at 10am. They are 5 friends of Cesar and Teri.
Sadly, yesterday our neighbor, the man who lives in front of our house, dies of a heart attack and today I was able to speak with the family and to give them comfort in their pain (I hope to have sown the Word).
I am sending you a photo of the service (we were 17 present, and variuos people did not come) and even though we meet during the week to pray together and they told me thay will come to the services, they didn't come and I don't yet know why (I hope to know today).
The brothers in the Toluca church asked me to come on Saturday the 27th at 12 (noon?) to give the baccalaureate sermon to the stuents graduating from ILEB ( LatinAmerican Institute of Bible Studies), a branch of the Sunset International bible Insitute.

I hope that God permits us to be together again to praise His Holy Name.

This is a paraphrase from the automated English translation that Raciel sent out... (tkb)

Dear beloved brothers and sisters in Christ,

On Saturday, May 23rd we had the opportunity to bless the marriage union of Eric and Dulce (Eric is the son of Eva and Teo - Ofelia's brother). Thanks to God the ceremonywas pretty and touching. Later we went to the wedding celebration (reception) - there were almost 200 people in attendance.

Sunday there were 15 people in the worship. Sadly, some are waiting and others are looking for work in other cities. I ask your prayers that the church will again grow in number and in faithfulness. Thank you so much for your prayers are for your financial support.

God Bless
Raciel

Raciel.

Dear brothers in Christ, this is the report of May 17th. We were 20 people in the worship service and 10 more at the luncheon that the ladies put on at Encino park. Thanks be to God that people are still coming to the services.. this is the result of prayers also additionally because the alarm of the epidemic is passing. The result of this is that the people are more confident (to come out).
Sadly, the economy is very bad in Guanajuato, some have ost there jobs and things are getting more expensive every day. Nevertheless, we are confident that this will all soon be a bad memory. I send you some photos and hope that we will soon be able to see one another. God bless you forever.

Dear brothers in Christ. This is the report of the service on May 10, 2009. We were 22 in attendance and at this time some people haven't been able to (or don't want to) come to the church. Ofelia's family is competing to be candidates to the presidency of Guanajuato (this is some sort of significant political involvement that I don't fully understand - tkb) and they are very busy campaigning and doing a lot of oher things, therefore they are not meeting with us at the moment. But we pray so that God will soon send more people who want to understand and obey his word.

Dear brothers in Christ. We hope that each day finds you in better health. The church in Guanajuato is praying for the health of the church in North Carolina and for the elders and the brothers and sisters. We give thanks to God that the "flu"is only in some places and we pray that your city is free from this sickness.

We have (as you know) the problem of the flu and this makes us a little worried, be we trust in our powerful God and we know that this shall soon pass. In the church in Guanajuato there are some sick with colds (but not the flu) and many didn't come to the Sunday services. Only 13 adults and some children (sick with the cold), so we ask for your prayers.

Las week almost all of the normal church activities (groups, studies, classes, meetings, etc) we cancelled... and we we practically imprisoned many days (the truth is that I felt powerless and like a caged lion) because the government said that we should do it until May 6th and I don't think I can stand going so long without seeing the brothers and sisters of the church... so I have decided to go out starting tomorrow to care for the "sheep"and to put myself in their situation (up to this point we have been in contact by phone with everyone, but it's just not the same even though some of them have come to our house). Because of this I ask for your prayers for us and for the church.

God bless you and strengthen you forever. Your friend and brother in Christ. Raciel

Updates

I talked to Raciel this week and got a few updates:

The van is still broken. He is walking and has alrady lost 8kg ! He said he should stop so he won't have to buy new clothes.

There are some personality conflicts in the church (between some of the women) that should work out over time but are causing some problems right now.

He has met a new family (an extended family of about 10 people) who want to know more about the church. There is a newlywed couple lading the family, and both the husband and wife have decided to leave their respective religious backgrounds in search of the church they read about in the Bible. This sounds like a great opportunity- please pray that Raciel will be able to talk with them more and teach them.

We are still planning a trip to Guanajuato July 4 - July 9th. Please pray for the effort and let me know if you are interested in going.

I want to tell you about something that happened to us on April 4th (our wedding anniversary). Saturday morning we woke up early to go to Leon to have some family time, nevertheless on the way to Silao (near the airport) we were involved in an accident. An older van passed us on a curve (at a high speed) and we were behind them when I realized there were a lot of little rocks on the road, and these made their van start to slide across the road. Not being able to control their van, they crashed into the median and then the van flipped on its side.

We could see all of this first hand, since we were behind them, so that I did what I could to stop myself and not crash into them and thank God we stopped aout 3-6 fee away, close - very close - to them. When we were able to get stopped, Ilse and I got out and shot over toward themto try to help them (remember, their van was on its side) and when we got there we could see that the arm of the boy was trapped between the van and a block of cement. There were 4 people in the van (the parents and 2 children). Thanks to God, the 3 got out without problems, but the boy had a grave cut in his left arm and a lot of blood came out.

Once Ilse, a man, and I were alble to lift the van just a little (enough) the boy was able to pull out his arm and we noticed that his cut was really serios, so that we put a tourniquet on his arm with a piece of fabric and we called for an ambulance with my cell phone. It truly was discouraging that during the short while we were there (like 2 hours), even though there had been many people passing by slowly in their cars none of them stopped to help (except 4-5 men, but they left about as soon as they arrived)

We left ourselves after everything was over and we saw how they took the mother (who was certainly pregnant) and the boy to the hospital in the ambulance... when the firemen and federal police left, we left too. We went to Leon but it wasn't as it was at the beginning, because we were truly impacted in thinking how much the accident had touched us.

Thank God we were able to be there just at the right moment to help these people. When we came back from Leon our van quit again, underneath a bridge - and thank God that a patrol passed us at that moment and I made signals so he would help us and he sent us a mechanic (green angel) and he told me that the gas pump wasn't working anymore and that we also needed to change the filter. Because of that the van has been stopped since Saturday and we are moving around to my studies and group meetings on the bus or walking. I hope that you ahvn't found all of this boring and I ask you for your prayers for us please.

March 1, 2009

Dear brothers in Christ: That you all have the peace, wellness, and the mercy of God the Father of our Lord Jesus.

This is the report of what happened this Sunday, March 1st.

We had 41 people in the worship service (and also 2 guests). The guests were Teresa and her daughter Brenda (the mother and sister of Teresa, Caesar's wife - Teresa and Cesar are the Sunday school teachers); they ate with us after the service and they asked me if they could meet with the church (obviously I told them YES). The truth is that it s a great blessing to see how God is allowing His work in Guanajuato to grow day after day - at this time the church is very excited with what is happenening (classes, small evangelism groups, womens meetings on Saturdays, etc.) and above all that the inclusion (of the people in the activities of the church) is more and more evident.

For these and many more things we give thanks to God for his blessed mercy for his church in Guanajuato. Nevertheless, on Sunday we were missing 13 of the people who always come to the worship service - please pray for them.

Thanks so much for your prayers and for your help in the missionary work, for your confidence, and for your friendship. God bless you forever.
Raciel, Ilse Annie y Samuelito

Greeting from Guanajuato

This is Keith Boan.
I have been in Guanajuato since Friday, and we´re having a great time here.  The nights are cool, but it´s just my kind of weather.
Friday night we had a Bible study in a home and enjoyed good songs, a good study from 1st John, and some great chalupas. I am continually amazed by the hospitilidad I experience here.
We spent the day Saturday looking at hotel options for a summer group trip from Northview, walking around town making copies and other quehaceres (errandS), and enjoying some good food and coffee outdoors.  Saturday evening we dropped Ilse and little Samuel off at a ladies meeting - there were about 14-15 ladies there.  Raciel, Annie, and I went to the ¨mall¨and god Japenese in the food court.  Believe it or not, this place has awesome sushi (Sushi in Gto - who´da thunk it)
Sunday has been great.  The worship service was great.  There were 45-50 people there.  Raciel had a great sermon about the love of God.  I gave the comments for the offering in my broken Spanish - I was very nervous, but I think it was well recieved.  After serivces we had a small vision clinic.  I lost count, but I think there were 50 or more people there.  We were able to help most of them, and I will be sending back a few pairs of glasses for some of the church ´regulars.´  One of the church memeber brought 100 tamales and they were all gone (I took a few minutes to have a coupl e.) Tonight we´ll watch the Super  Bowl and then grab some dinner, and then I´ll return home tomorrow.

Please pray for the Rameriz family and for the work here in Guanajuato.  I see great things happening here.  We hope to bring a group from Northview here in the summer.  The future of this congregation is very bright, and this city can be impacted in an amazing way for Christ.  Keep praying!
